- Why have a “Islamic Heritage Camporee”?
Scouting provides a safe and supportive environment for Muslim youth and families to enjoy nature while at the same time help develop character, faith & leadership skills. However, there are many misconceptions about scouting in Muslim community. The Camporee is envisioned to provide an opportunity to showcase scouting to Muslim community while also making it possible for BSA to learn and understand unique requirements of Muslim faith in context of Scouting.
Finally, our goal should be to make the Camporee become a major National and International annual event for Muslim Scouts and Families
- Do I have to be in scouting to attend?
No. The event is open to all Muslim families. You don’t have to have any kids enrolled into scouting. There are a lot of activities for everyone to enjoy. No scouting experience is required. There will be 5 daily prayers, talks and halal food.
- What are the exact timings of the event?
Check-in is on Friday August 18th between 3 PM – 7:30 PM while the checkout is on Sunday August 20th 11 am.
- Are there showers and restrooms at the campsite?
The campsite has showers and restrooms with flush toilets in certain areas and porta potties throughout the campsite.
- What are some of the activities?
Activities may include:
- Horseback riding
- Flag etiquettes
- First aid
- Rock climbing
- How to make fire
- Archery
- Rifle
- Shotgun
- BB Gun
- Tomahawk
- Rowing
- Arts & Crafts
- What food will be provided?
Registration includes 4 group meals i.e. Saturday breakfast to Sunday breakfast. The food is Halal and served in the dining hall.
- Are their restrooms, shower etc?
Yes, there are. Please click here to look at the details of facilities at the campsite.
- How are the registration cost utilized?
Registration costs are used towards reservation of the Wente Scout Camp, food, and activities. There will be paid staff from Boy Scout of America for overseeing activities at the campsite and ensuring safety. It is fully volunteer run event. Volunteers are from local bay area communities. Please feel free to volunteer for the Camporee. There are many openings and opportunities to volunteer.
- What is the total capacity of the camp?
The camp can accommodate a total of 400 participants.
- Why should I register now?
We only have limited number of spots. The tent assignment is on first come first serve basis.
